Literature Text

Her carelessly constructed conceits aren't convincing;
her speech struggles to steady itself as it spews lies.
Helplessly hopeless, or hopeful hero
are the range of roles she represents.

I wondered why they welcomed her
until I saw her scattered scars, and she seemingly suffered
a myriad of medical maladies.
She, indeed, has some indisputable insanity.

We pardon the pitiful person,
who shields her soul in suspicion
afraid what lies within will be loathed.
we will indulge her deceptive ways,

but should we?
This girl said she had three different groups after her for her hacking, that her mother once broke all the bones in her body, and other dubious things.

Who says free verse can't have sound quality?  Your implementation of alliteration here is impressively fluid; I'm sure that's what your going for.  You also effectively use a little bit of consonance here and assonance there.  Such a short poem, but it really demonstrates how free verse still has unique potential for musical quality, and you don't seem to force it.  Very amusing.
I'd respond, "We can handle such coarse, capriciously low communicative tendencies with candid clemency, so we should."
